As UC Berkeley's only Chinese dance performing group, we are eager to spread the art and culture of Chinese dance. We welcome anyone of any gender, ethnicity, and experience level.

For those interested, but have had little or no experience with Chinese dance, we encourage you to take our Beginning Chinese Dance Decal offered every semester to introduce the fundamentals of Chinese dance.

For those who have had more experience with Chinese dance, we hold auditions for the performing group, Fei Tian Dancers, at the beginning of every semester.

About FTD

In Spring of 2003, the decal class sought to increase the level of professionalism in their practice of Chinese Dance, and added a new performing dance troupe to the Berkeley campus community: China Dance Theatre. Since its creation, members of China Dance Theatre learned a variety of ethnic dances, which they performed at special events many times throughout the semester.

In Spring of 2007, with the exit of a large majority of older members and many administrative changes to the fundamental workings of the organization, 7 members renamed and rebuilt the performing group. As of Fall 2007, China Dance Theatre is now Fei Tian Dancers.

All members are passionate about promoting and celebrating the elegance and culturally rich nature of Chinese Dance. Through group feedback and master classes, we seek to better each member's quality of dance and performance. FTD is open to everyone, and every year we look forward to new members' contributions of talent and passion.
